Introduction to the
Founder
1948 –
Born in Jinjiang of Fujian Province, HUI moved to live in Hong
Kong at the age of seven.
1975 -
HUI joined Jardine Engineering as a junior salesman. Because of his outstanding performance,
HUI received three promotions in four years time. Eventually in 1981, he was granted with
an exceptional interview, and was further promoted Resident Executive in
spite of his poor high school qualification. This was indeed a track record in
Jardine’s 150-year history.
1983 –
He became manager of China Projects Department of Jardine Engineering to
develop the market of Mainland China.
1986 –
His “Coldstone Centre” was established specially to promote Shoushan stone
carvings in Hong Kong. In the mean time, HUI advertised in
“Fuzhou Evening News” offering generously to the public so that they might
consider selling their collections of Shoushan stones. Thus, HUI was known as the first pioneer
lighting up the Torch of Shoushan.
1987 –
HUI was another first one to arrange Shoushan stone to participate in Hong
Kong International Jewelry Exhibition, and successfully passed the artworks
of young academic sculptor Ben CHEN to the hands of senior Taiwanese
collectors. This had helped the
academic sculptors become comparatively popular thereafter.
1988 –
He presented an article “See the Future of Chinese Arts & Crafts from
the Point of International Marketing” through Fujian Arts & Crafts
Magazine, which was an indirect indication to guide the major role Shoushan
stone might play in the future’s world market.
1993 –
HUI immigrated to Canada
after having suffered from the “Incident of Tiananmen Square in 1989.”
2001 –
Fascinaire Arts Ltd was founded to organizing Shoushan stone exhibitions in
Canada.
2002 –
In October, HUI introduced to Canadians first sizeable Shoushan Stone Art
Exhibition at Chinese Cultural Centre of the Greater Vancouver.
2003 –
Shoushan Stone Art shows were held respectively at Crystal
Mall and Dr. SUN Yat-sen Classical
Chinese Garden in British Columbia,
Canada. Relevant lectures both in Chinese and
English versions were given during this period. In late November, Idearts Gallery was
formed with his friends from all over the world.
2004 –
In early March, “Wood & Stone Art Exhibition” was held in Richmond, B.C., Canada. In order to mark the founding of China
Overseas Shoushan Stone Association on 28 June, 2004, HUI’s book “Shoushan Stone
Art” is to be published later in the year.
HUI is also the founder of Manager’s Agreement with Shoushan
sculptors, and is currently the manager of “Magnificent Seven of Shoushan.”
